What's New

A log of updates and improvements to the Alex Pe Motor Route Database.

Version 1.3.6
April 2026
Latest

Smarter search

* Search now looks inside route and placemark descriptions — find a route by a keyword from its description, not just its title.

Version 1.3.5
April 2026

Faster map on slow connections

* The map loads noticeably faster on mobile, especially on slower connections — the initial tiles now start downloading sooner.

Version 1.3.4
April 2026

Faster and smoother on mobile

* Photos in placemark popups (motomus locations, food spots, and others) now load correctly — they were blocked by a security policy.

* Tapping placemark pins (viewpoints, fuel stops, food spots) now opens the popup instantly instead of after a short delay.

* Tapping the map to close a route now feels snappier, especially when many routes are visible.

* The ☕ support button no longer causes a flicker when opening or closing a route.

* The map loads its tiles slightly faster on the first visit.

Version 1.3.3
April 2026

Bug fixes

* Tapping routes while Around Me is active now works correctly — the 50 km circle was blocking taps on route lines underneath it.

* Tapping a route while Around Me is active now hides the other routes as expected. Tapping the map to deselect correctly brings back only the nearby routes.

Version 1.3.2
April 2026

Smoother on mobile

* The map responds faster when tapping routes, hiding all routes, or using Around Me — especially noticeable on mid-range Android phones.

Small fixes

* Elevation chart distances on KML routes were displaying incorrectly — now fixed.

* Various under-the-hood improvements for accessibility and security.

Version 1.3.1
March 2026

Topo map

* A third map style is now available alongside Light and Dark — tap the globe button and choose Topo to see terrain shading, elevation contours, and mountain labels powered by OpenTopoMap.

Focus on one route

* Tap any route and everything else fades away so you can study just that one. Tap the map background to bring them all back.

Share a specific spot

* Every placemark now has a shareable link that flies straight to it and opens the popup — handy for sending a fuel stop or viewpoint to a riding buddy.

A few small improvements

* New bottom bar with attribution, privacy, and changelog links — always visible without opening the sidebar.

* Report a problem link in the sidebar footer goes straight to a GitHub issue.

* Elevation profile distances are now correct (a unit bug was compressing the x-axis).

* The map and buttons respond faster on first load, especially on slower connections.

Bug fixes & performance

* The "What's New" and "Privacy" panels no longer overshoot across the screen before sliding into place.

* Around Me mode is significantly faster — routes far outside the 50 km radius are now skipped immediately instead of scanning every GPS point.

* Search results update after a short pause instead of on every keystroke, keeping the interface smooth on long route lists.

* Keyboard focus is now clearly visible on the sort control, the legend toggle, and the Show/Hide all routes button.

* Opening "What's New" or "Privacy" now moves focus into the panel and keeps it there — tab navigation no longer escapes behind the overlay.

* Touch targets on route, map, and toolbar buttons increased to meet accessibility guidelines on mobile.

* All third-party scripts and stylesheets now include integrity verification — altered CDN files are blocked automatically.

Version 1.3.0
March 2026

Around Me

* Tap the Around Me button and the map instantly focuses on a 50 km radius around your GPS location — only routes and spots in that area stay visible.

* All filters still work inside the mode. Tap the button again to exit and get everything back.

Lock the map on a search

* Search for a route and press Enter to lock the map filter — only matching routes stay on the map. An orange chip shows the filter is active. Press Esc or tap × to clear it.

Riding schools and service centers on the map

* Two new spot types added: Motorcycle Schools (🏫) and Service Centers (🔧). Toggle them in the Layers panel like any other category.

Spots group together when zoomed out

* Placemark pins now merge into numbered clusters at low zoom so the map doesn't get overwhelmed. Zoom in and they spread back out into individual icons.

A few small improvements

* The download button now saves the GPX/KMZ file directly to your device instead of opening it in a new tab.

* Support buttons (Buy Me a Coffee, YouTube, Community) now float above the map so they're always easy to find.

* Various small visual fixes and polish throughout.

Version 1.2.1
March 2026

263 local food spots, now on the map

* We've absorbed the entire PGL (Puncte Gastronomice Locale) database — 263 certified local producers and rural restaurants across Romania — as a new placemark type.

* They're hidden by default so the map stays clean. Tap the 🍽️ PGL chip in the Layers panel to show them all.

* The legend has a new PGL row with an ⓘ badge that explains what the programme is.

Richer placemark popups

* Tapping a food location now shows a photo, county badge, address, and a tappable phone number — straight from the PGL registry.

* Existing placemarks (viewpoints, fuel stops, etc.) look the same as before.

Version 1.2.0
March 2026

Dismiss a route by clicking the map

* When a route is selected, you can now click anywhere on the map — or press Escape — to go back to the full list. No more hunting for the back button.

Filter what you see on the map

* A new Layers panel in the sidebar lets you show or hide route types (Onroad / Offroad) and placemark categories (Fuel, Food, Viewpoint, Camp, and more) with a single tap.

* Hiding a route type removes it from both the map and the route list at once.

Cleaner sidebar

* Removed the old filter pill rows — the Layers panel replaces them with a single, clearer control.

* The collapse button moved to the bottom of the sidebar, giving the toolbar more breathing room.

Version 1.1.1
March 2026

Bug fixes

* Routes were not loading for some Chrome users — the app would get stuck on "Loading routes…" and never show the map. Fixed.

* A few small visual glitches cleaned up.

Version 1.1.0
March 2026

Cleaner look

* The app now uses Space Grotesk — a font with a bit more character that fits the GPS and route-data aesthetic better than the generic system default.

* All small labels (badges, stats, legend) are now a touch larger and easier to read, especially on mobile.

* The icon buttons in the sidebar toolbar are now proper icons instead of emoji, which means they look consistent regardless of your phone or operating system.

Easier to use on mobile

* Buttons and filter pills are larger — easier to tap without accidentally hitting the wrong thing.

* A floating button now appears in the bottom-left corner when the sidebar is closed, so you can reopen it without stretching to the top of the screen.

* Users who prefer reduced motion (set in their device accessibility settings) will no longer see transitions and animations.

Version 1.0.0
March 2026

The map

* All routes are drawn on the map as soon as you open the site — no need to tap anything first.

* Onroad routes are shown in blue, offroad routes in amber, consistently across both the map and the sidebar.

* Every route has a green start marker and a red end marker.

* Switch between a light and dark map style from the toolbar.

* "My location" button flies the map to where you are, so you can see which routes are nearby.

* Solo mode — hide everything, then tap a single route to view it on its own. Tap another to swap. Tap "Show routes" to bring them all back.

* Filtering by type or format hides those routes from the map too, not just from the list.

* A legend in the bottom corner explains route colours, markers, and placemark icons. It hides automatically when the elevation panel is open.

Route list & details

* Each route shows its distance, elevation gain, and an estimated riding time (based on typical onroad or offroad speeds).

* Tapping a route opens a full detail panel with description, elevation stats, a share button, a download link, and a YouTube link if available.

* Share button copies a direct link to that route — on mobile it opens your native share sheet instead.

* Deep links work: opening a shared link jumps straight to that route on the map and opens its detail panel.

* Mark routes as ridden with a single tap — your progress is saved in the browser and persists between visits.

Search & filters

* Search by route name, region, county, or country — results appear as you type.

* Filter by type (Onroad / Offroad) or by file format (GPX / KML).

* Sort routes by newest, oldest, longest, shortest, or most elevation grant.

* A stats bar at the top shows the total distance, elevation, and number of routes currently visible.

Placemarks

* Points of interest on the map: viewpoints, fuel stops, food, campsites, danger spots, photo locations, and more.

* Tapping a placemark shows its description, coordinates, and an "Open in Maps" link.

Elevation profiles

* GPX routes show a full elevation profile chart at the bottom of the screen, with total gain, loss, and maximum altitude.

Mobile

* Dedicated navigation bar on mobile with a hamburger menu and a tap-to-reveal search bar.

* The sidebar opens as a full-width panel. Route details slide up as a bottom sheet over the map.

* Pinch-to-zoom and other native map gestures work without triggering page zoom.

Privacy & Cookies

Last updated: 2026 -- Alex Pe Motor / apm.bartis.ro

No cookies

This website does not use cookies of any kind — not for tracking, not for analytics, not for preferences. A small amount of data (your dark/light map preference, sidebar state, and which routes you have marked as ridden) is saved in your browser's local storage solely to remember your settings between visits. This data never leaves your device.

No personal data collected

We do not collect, store or process any personal information. There are no forms, no accounts, no login, and no contact mechanisms on this site that would result in personal data being handled.

Visit counting

This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits. It collects no personal data, uses no cookies, and does not track you across sites or build a profile of you. Only aggregate numbers (pageviews, referrers, countries, device types) are recorded. No consent banner is required because no personal data is processed. There is no Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other profiling script on this site.

Location

The map has a "My location" button that, if tapped, asks your browser for your current position. This is used only to fly the map view to your area so you can see which routes are nearby. Your location is never recorded, stored, transmitted to any server, or shared with anyone — it is used in-memory for that single map pan and then discarded. You can deny the permission and the rest of the site works exactly the same.

Third-party services

The map tiles are loaded from CARTO and use OpenStreetMap data. Route files are fetched from GitHub (raw content). Visit counts are processed by Cloudflare Web Analytics. These requests go directly from your browser to those services and are subject to their own privacy policies. No data about you is passed to them by us.

Route data

All GPS tracks and placemarks on this map are public data shared voluntarily by Alex Pe Motor and contributors. They are available on GitHub under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

Contributor licence

By submitting a route, placemark or any other content to this project (via pull request, direct upload or any other means), you grant Alex Bartis, Alex Pe Motor and Comunitatea Alex Pe Motor a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, modify, distribute and display that content in any form and for any purpose, without restriction and without any obligation to pay compensation — now or in the future.
