FAQ
K-12 Computer Science Pathway FAQ

Does CodeHS offer a complete K-12 computer science pathway?

Yes. CodeHS offers a full K-12 computer science pathway with a course for every grade — for example, block-based coding in elementary school, Python in middle school, and AP Computer Science in high school — plus many more choices in a comprehensive catalog, so students build skills on the same platform year after year.

What does the elementary part of the K-12 pathway include?

The elementary portion includes grade-by-grade computer science courses for kindergarten through 5th grade. Students learn block-based coding with Scratch and ScratchJr, computational thinking, and digital literacy through ready-to-teach, project-based lessons — building the foundation for the text-based programming they'll do in CodeHS middle and high school courses.

Can our district customize a K-12 pathway?

Yes. CodeHS pathways are fully customizable. Districts can start from a recommended sequence and swap in courses that fit their goals — like cybersecurity, web design, game development, or AI — and the CodeHS team works directly with schools and districts to design the pathway that best fits their needs.

Are CodeHS pathways aligned to state standards?

Yes. CodeHS offers state-specific pathways and courses aligned to state computer science standards, with elementary, middle, and high school sequences for states like California, Florida, Georgia, New York, and Utah. Choose your state on this page to see the recommended standards-aligned pathway.

How does the K-12 pathway prepare students for AP Computer Science?

Students work up to AP gradually: elementary and middle school courses build computational thinking and early programming skills, then introductory high school courses in Python or JavaScript lead into AP Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A. CodeHS is a College Board-endorsed provider for both AP courses.

Design Your Computer Science Pathway

Our goal is to work with schools and districts to develop the pathway that best fits their needs. Contact us to learn more and implement a computer science curriculum pathway at your school or district.
