Spotify Soloist
Run Spotify playback on your own Linux hardware.

Spotify Soloist enables Linux-based systems to play Spotify content as dedicated
playback devices, with support for local audio output, command-line control, and
integrations through a WebSocket API.

The Spotify account that creates the Spotify Soloist API key must have Premium.

What is Spotify Soloist?

Spotify Soloist is a headless Spotify client for Linux-based systems, aimed at
devices like the Raspberry Pi. It supports the full Spotify audio experience
that you know and love while audio plays on your device.

* Use a Linux-based device, like a Raspberry Pi, as a network speaker.

* Connect Spotify Soloist to a local amplifier, DAC, or Bluetooth speaker.

* Connect a local display, button panel, or automation using the optional
WebSocket API.

* Use single-track mode for scripts that play one Spotify URI and then exit.

Spotify Soloist runs as a command-line application on your device. Your app or
script can control it through the optional WebSocket API or soloist ctl .

Access and distribution

Spotify Soloist requires an API key at startup.

* Do not share your Spotify Soloist API key. Each user must generate their own
key from Spotify for Developers.

* Do not redistribute Spotify Soloist archives or binaries directly. Link users
to the official
Downloads and updates
page instead.

Getting started

To use Spotify Soloist for the first time:

* Log in to the Spotify for Developers dashboard .

* Open Spotify Soloist API Key and generate an API key.

* Download the
Spotify Soloist archive for your device architecture .

* Extract the soloist executable and run it with your device name and API key.

* Open the Spotify app on the same local network and select your Spotify Soloist
device.

Spotify Soloist builds expire after 90 days. After that, download and install a
newer build. Read more about build lifetime and updates in
