AUC boasts a number of research centers that promote collaborative research across a wide array of disciplines. They are highlighted on this page. * Research at AUC * Research Centers Organized Research, Innovation, and Creativity Units (ORICUs) Research, innovation, and creativity are the key drivers of success for many of today's leading universities and are integral to a global institution's ability to survive and thrive in a competitive environment. The Provost Office at The American University in Cairo, through the Office of Associate Provost for Research, Innovation, and Creativity, seeks to facilitate the development of initiatives that cut across traditional disciplinary boundaries. One effective way to this end entails the creation of units at the university that serve as links to different relevant constituencies. These units are typically identified as centers, institutes, laboratories, etc. Collectively, these will be referred to as "Organized Research, Innovation, and Creativity Units" (ORICUs). Guidelines for establishing an ORICU Yousef Jameel Science and Technology Research Center The Science and Technology Research Center supports a variety of nanoscience and technology- oriented projects. Research activities are centered around generic imaging, analysis and fabrication equipment and focus on nanomaterials characterization and design and fabrication of micro-opto-electromechanical systems. * Visit Center's Website Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research The Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research serves as a catalyst for independent research in American studies both within the university and with the outside community by providing intellectual and information resources to support those wishing to study the United States more fully. * Visit Center's Website Cynthia Nelson Institute for Gender and Women's Studies The Institute for Gender and Women's Studies is a multipurpose and interdisciplinary research center that serves scholars interested in gender and women's studies in the Middle East/North Africa, South Asia and Africa. * Visit Center's Website Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D) Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D) is a center for academic scholarship, research and policy analysis on access to knowledge for development in Egypt and the Arab world. * Visit Center's Website Middle East Studies Center (MESC) The American University in Cairo's Middle East Studies Center draws upon various methods and disciplines of study. The interdisciplinary nature of the Area Studies program provides students with exposure to a variety of curricula. Students are given the unique opportunity to study the Middle East through an array of historical, sociological, political and economic frameworks. * Visit Center's Website Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism The Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism is home to the oldest and most respected graduate journalism program in the Arab world. It was founded in 1985 by Professor Emeritus Abdallah Schleifer with the generous support of AUC board member Sheikh Kamal Adham. * Visit Center's Website Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) was first established in 2000 as the Forced Migration and Refugee Studies program (FMRS) and was expanded in 2008 into a Regional Center encompassing all forms of international mobility, whether voluntary or forced, economic or political, individual or collective, temporary or permanent. * Visit Center's Website Center of Nanoelectronics and Devices (CND) The Center of Nanoelectronics and Devices (CND) aims to create an environment in which the electronics industry can thrive in the region and has a vision of becoming an internationally leading education and research Center supporting the growth of the electronics and devices industry in the region. * Visit Center's Website El Khazindar Business Research and Case Center El Khazindar Business Research and Case Center provides world-class case studies and other educational services offering students outstanding participant-centered learning tools. KCC's services are dedicated to developing top caliber students, connecting businesses and students in the region and ultimately contributing to the betterment of the society through academic research and practical applications. * Visit Center's Website Social Research Center The Social Research Center conducts and encourages multidisciplinary social science research in Egypt and the Arab region, trains researchers, guides and assists graduate students, scholars and organizations engaged in social science research in the region. * Visit Center's Website Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability CARES envisions a region of modern, sustainable and prosperous communities. The mission of CARES is to guide sustainable development efforts in Egypt, the region, and beyond by providing holistic academic programs, applied interdisciplinary research, and community services for improving lives and livelihoods while safeguarding natural resources for future generations to come. * Visit Center's Website School of Business Qalaa Financial Services Lab The center offers a state-of-the-art instructional facility that aims to integrate hands-on financial services practice with classroom financial concepts, such as securities trading, risk management and asset allocation.
